Electronic Residency's
Internet-Residency Application Delivery System (I-RADS) allows the submission
of your electronic application during the Residency Match, Scramble,
and Post Scramble seasons. In addition, I-RADS allows International
Medical Graduates (IMGs), as well as American Medical Graduates, to
communicate with residency program directors in the fastest and most
efficient manner.
On average, there are approximately 9000-10000 Scrambling IMGs per year competing for less than 700 residency positions which gives each less than 10% chance of success. In order to obtain the highest chance in landing a residency position on Scramble day, applicants must be well prepared and plan their Scramble day (four methods of contact explained below). It is evident that applicants cannot effectively Scramble on their own without compromising one or another contact method. Electronic Residency’s applicant database access and speed is an essential factor in increasing your chances on Scramble day.
Since the establishment of ER’s Application Delivery System (I-RADS), a new technique of reaching residency programs on Scramble day has emerged proving to be the most successful way in delivering your non-official application. ER’s I-RADS fax and e-mail engines are exclusively connected to one of the largest fax and e-mail submission services in the United States that is equipped to defeat busy fax lines and e-mail inbox. With a three-stage retry system, ER offers the highest and fastest delivery rate guaranteed. I-RADS is built with the latest e-mail delivery technology which insures that your application is received in the program’s e-mail inbox rather than the spam folders. In 2009, our I-RADS has accomplished its submission stage in less than 15 minutes.
The day following the Match (Tuesday of the Match week), Starting at 12:00 p.m. ET and for a short period of time, applicants have the opportunity to contact the NRMP© announced unfilled programs, that is called the Scramble. The Scramble allows unmatched applicants to send their applications to all of those unfilled positions.
Contacting programs can be done in many different ways: the official ERAS® way which is limited to 30 new applications only, and then the traditional applicant introduction way through fax, e-mail, and phone calls which is unlimited. It is very important for you to have an ERAS® application access on your side on Scramble day as well as NRMP© access.
On Scramble day, applicants race in the submission of their applications by fax and e-mail to the unfilled residency programs. Also, many choose to call the listed programs in hopes of increasing their chances of reaching these unfilled positions. As a note, it is very discouraging to send all of your documents to residency program that has not solicited your application. Introducing yourself to the programs without clogging their fax machines on Scramble day is the best way to efficiently reach the program. Electronic Residency has the tools that will help you accomplish this task allowing you to focus on the phone calls only, thus increasing your chances.
Known for its efficiency, Electronic Residency prepares solely what is necessary and sufficient in order to present you to the programs. To avoid the submission of unsolicited documents, ER has created the system that decreases fax and e-mail congestion and therefore delivering your application rapidly. Sending unnecessary (unsolicited) documents clutters residency programs’ fax machines (an average fax machine on the residency program’s side may require at least one minute to deliver one page) and that must be avoided.
Electronic Residency’s Applicant’s Credentials Document (ACD) attached with a Candidate Access Key (CAK) provides full web access which has taken away the unnecessary fax and e-mail loads that is created by applicants who planned to send tens of documents. Our goal is to introduce you, the applicant, to all residency programs available without congesting their faxes and e-mails. Our ACD has been a highlight to residency programs since the creation of our Residency Application Delivery System.
Electronic Residency is the largest residency applicant database on the web with over 5500 applicants and has been a focus to hundreds of residency programs on Scramble day. Electronic Residency’s database has created an additional avenue for residency programs beside faxes and e-mails. Therefore, residency programs are able to access your application directly from our website in addition to the faxes and e-mails.
It is virtually impossible for a single applicant to multitask to such a grand scale on Scramble day, faxing, e-mailing and calling residency programs all at the same time without compromising each task. As an Electronic Residency active member, your Scramble day will be a shared task. We will work with you as a team in contacting residency programs. Here are the tasks:
You- Access your NRMP© account and start the Phone calling process at 12:00 pm ET, also attend any residency programs’ requests to send an official ERAS® application.
Electronic Residency- Fax starts at 12:00 pm ET
Electronic Residency- E-mail starts at 12:00 pm ET
Electronic Residency- Database opens at 12:00 pm ET for residency programs access
With our services, our applicants have the opportunity to focus merely on making the phone calls which provides them with the highest advantage over thousands of other applicants on this important day of Scramble.
1. AVOID contacting residency programs before Scramble day- submission of any applications before the Scramble start hour (12:00 pm ET March 16th 2010), or even days before may violate NRMP© terms. There is absolutely no need to send your application to residency programs within such short period of time. Again, an application sent at 12:00 pm ET is sufficient for Scramble purposes, thus preventing a violation. *Electronic Residency does not send any applications before the Scramble 12:00 pm set time.
2. AVOID activating last minute- we would like our members to activate as soon as possible. The sooner you activate, the more time it allows our team to review your application. Our application revision deadline is March 7th. If you have not received any interviews and the chances for matching are remote, then we encourage you to activate before the deadline for detailed revision of your entire application.
3. AVOID sending bad quality documents- the higher the quality of your documents, the better and more attractive your application will appear. Also, we encourage a professional passport size picture.
4. AVOID partially filling Universal Application Form (UAF) - the more complete and updated your UAF, the stronger your application.
5. AVOID going into the Scramble without NRMP® and ERAS® access- During the Scramble, in order to call residency programs you will need to have access to the NRMP© unfilled programs list. You will also need your ERAS® access to submit official applications to those programs that request it. Remember, sending faxes and e-mails is only for presentation purposes and you will get asked to submit an official application through ERAS®.
6. AVOID sending your entire ERAS® application submission limit within the first minutes- ERAS® allows only 30 new application submissions IN TOTAL (plus 15 application resubmissions) within 48 hours. You must avoid using up all application submissions limit randomly. You must be wise in sending only to residency programs that show you interest, or those who ask you to submit an application. If you're still unclear about this point, please call us for further details.
Our main goal is that all of our applicants to be well informed and understand the complete Scramble process. For that reason, we encourage you to contact us BY PHONE for further details or clarifications. We also welcome you to our new office in Northeastern Ohio for application preparation and Scramble coaching.
